Year 2, Day 390 (Mountain Anomaly Mission)

screenshot717.pngThe X5 takes off, heading west to the mountains to investigate the anomaly that satellites detected… the previous attempt to explore this region ended in disaster, when the X4 crashed! screenshot718.pngVal pilots the X-5 past the X-4 crash site, attempting to approach from a different direction!

screenshot722.png

Success!  Val sets the X-5 down in a relatively flat area, about 1000m from the Anomaly!

“The air sure is thin up here… better put on my helmet! ”
-Robart

screenshot726.png

Wow!  It’s pretty up here!
-Robart

screenshot727.png

“I found it!  Wow!  What could these things be? What could they mean?  ”
-Robart

The two explorers head back to the KSC to share their findings!

Year 2, Day 76

screenshot278.png

As upgrades are started on several Space Center facilities, funds are running very tight until the next funding period.  To stay busy, Mission Control decides to send Jeb on a short mission to investigate an anomaly detected by the Radar Scanner on board SpaceLab!

“Hey – before I take off I’m going to go check out that strange thing near the Space Center!”

-Jeb

Jeb hops out of the X-4 Jetplane, and runs over to the strange object…..screenshot281.png

Whew!  This is quite the jog!

screenshot282.pngLook at the size of this thing!   KSEA scientists are dispatched to investigate.  Jeb returns to his plane!screenshot289.png
Jeb flies west, to the mountains near KSC… screenshot296.png

This looks like it might be a rough landing.   Uh oh!  Uh Oh!

screenshot298.png

Boom!  The X-4 flips and flies apart in an explosion of parts!

“That was a close one!  I made it though! ”

-Jeb

screenshot300.png

“Looks like another Monolith!  Strange… dirt around it would indicate it may have recently been dug up.  Very odd!”
-Jeb

Jeb is rescued, and the flight data from the X-4 is examined.  Any future X-4 flights have been grounded until the cause of the crash can be determined!

Year 2, Day 39

scoutlander.png

KSEA releases plans for the new Scout Probe – a robotic lander designed to actually set down on Mun itself!   Launched on top of a Discovery Rocket, getting to Mun should be no problem.  Actually setting down (and remaining in communications with the Space Center) will be another thing entirely!  This will be a good test of the new communications systems deployed to Mun.

Additionally, construction begins on 2 X-4 Jetplanes to assist in exploration of Kerbin!

Year 2, Day 22 (Arrival at Airstrip)

screenshot230.png

Mitster takes off in the new X-4 Jetplane!

“This thing sure handles nice!”

-Mitster

screenshot231.png

Mitster pilots the craft around to take a good look at the island near the Space Center.  Scientists detected faint radio signals from it! screenshot234.png

Hopping out, Mitster discovers that the island has a small air strip and command tower!

“Wow!  This must have been where they did early flights using data from the probe – before KSEA!”

-Mitster

screenshot237.png

Mitster bows his head in memory of the Kerbals who certainly died at this place, trying to reach the stars.  screenshot238.png

Wow! What a great view!  I wonder what happened to all their planes!?
-Mitster
